We are deeply shocked and saddening by the passing of Geoff Warren.
No words can reflect the significance of the contribution Geoff has made over decades to the Bristol Rugby Referee's Society. Geoff was a hugely significant figure in the Society over several decades as a former Chairman, our SADO, committee member and much lauded and deserved Life Member. Above all, a huge number of referees have benefited from his unparalleled coaching, his advice, his insight, his knowledge, his drive, his passion, his dedication, his enthusiasm, his honesty and, of course, his occasional wrath - but all within the context of his genuine desire to make everyone a better referee.
Notwithstanding his work for the Bristol Society, Geoff was also, of course, a referee then TMO at the very top level of the national and international game. His passing has resonated in the rugby community far and wide not just in Bristol, or indeed this country.
We are all forever indebted for Geoff's substantial contribution to our great game. He will be sadly missed and is such a huge loss for the Society. A minute's silence was held, and tribute given, at the Society's end of season dinner - a really solemn moment.
This is truly awful news and our thoughts and prayers are obviously with his family whilst we await further details of funeral arrangements.
RIP Geoff
